“The largest ports in China have joined the sanctions against Russia's shadow fleet. The Chinese port operator Shandong Port Group has closed its ports to tankers from the Russian shadow fleet that are under U.S. sanctions. This was reported by Reuters,” says Alexander Musienko.

According to the expert, Shandong Province is a key route for importing oil from Russia, Venezuela, and Iran, having imported about 17% of all oil brought into China last year. Additionally, he points out, as noted by Reuters, many independent oil refineries located in Shandong are the largest importers of oil from such troubled countries.

“This is significant. Remember, I mentioned recently that suddenly China and the United States might draw closer, despite Donald Trump being president. Anything is possible. We see that China's current position suggests that this could eventually happen,” emphasizes Alexander Musienko.

Thus, he concludes, we can see that Chinese ports are redirecting their focus, which is undoubtedly a blow to the Kremlin. In the expert's view, Chinese businesses and authorities are already beginning to change their course in anticipation of Trump, creating the necessary conditions to avoid additional U.S. sanctions for cooperating with Russia.
