Poland aims to establish an alliance with the United Kingdom to continue supporting Ukraine after Donald Trump assumes office in 2025.
This was reported by The Times on November 11.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that he intends to hold talks with his British counterpart Keir Starmer in the coming days. He will also meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, according to The Times.
"This new political landscape poses a serious challenge for everyone—especially in the context of a potential end to the Russian-Ukrainian war as a result of an agreement between the President of Russia and the new President of the United States," Tusk stated.
Trump has repeatedly promised to end the war "in 24 hours," and while he has not yet outlined how he plans to achieve this, it is expected that his plan will involve Ukraine relinquishing occupied territories to Russia.
Tusk dismisses Trump's plans, asserting that decisions regarding Ukraine's future cannot be made without the Ukrainians.
It is anticipated that the leaders of France and the United Kingdom will meet in Paris on November 11 to discuss a last-ditch effort to persuade the U.S. to allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with Western weaponry before Trump enters the White House in January. This was reported by the Telegraph, citing sources within the British government.
According to the newspaper, Starmer and Macron hope that President Joe Biden will grant approval, which would serve as a step towards bolstering his foreign policy legacy.
"We really want to ensure that we can make the most of the time from today until January 20 (when Trump takes office), rather than just passing everything to the next administration," one source noted.
Background. Reminder: Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr. mocked Zelensky and Ukraine by posting an image of him on Instagram with the caption: "POV (point of view): you have 38 days left until you lose pocket money" (referring to the date of December 17, when American electors are set to meet to vote for President and Vice President based on the results of the November 5 election).
