POLITICO: Байден запрашивает у Конгресса дополнительные $24 млрд для помощи Украине и пополнения запасов США.

President Joe Biden has unofficially reached out to American lawmakers with a long-term request for an additional $24 billion in aid for Ukraine and to replenish U.S. stockpiles of weapons sent to fight against Russia.

The Biden administration aims to include this request in the overall adjustment of federal funding, which legislators are likely to approve next month, according to POLITICO.

Two congressional aides confirmed the details of the proposal put forth by the White House and stated that Congress received it on Monday. Both aides spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The new tranche of emergency funding from the Pentagon will be allocated for the supply of weapons and equipment to Ukraine as well as to replenish U.S. stockpiles of arms sent to Kyiv.

Two-thirds of the request, $16 billion, will be used to replenish U.S. stocks.

The remaining $8 billion will be directed towards the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, under which the Pentagon contracts American companies to manufacture weapons for Ukrainian forces.

Background. It is worth noting that the Pentagon revealed the contents of another American aid package for Ukraine worth $275 million: the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive artillery shells, drones, missiles, and more from partners.
