Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz stated that his conversation with Putin revealed that the Russian dictator's views on the war in Ukraine have not changed.
This is reported by Reuters.
According to Scholz, the call to Putin was necessary to dispel any illusions he might have had that the West plans to withdraw its support for Ukraine.
The Chancellor noted that considering Donald Trump's rapid return to the presidency in the U.S., it would also be inappropriate for Washington to maintain regular contacts with Putin while no European leader did the same.
Scholz also emphasized that the discussion with the Russian dictator was "very detailed," but it became clear that almost nothing has changed in the Russian president's views on the war.
"And that is bad news," he said.
