“Now, for services that were previously free, there will be charges. But for which services? Let’s clarify. The first is without a doctor’s referral. For instance, if you decide to undergo an examination by a specialized doctor, you need a referral from your family doctor. If you don’t have this referral, you will have to pay. Exceptions are made for emergency cases,” explains Ekaterina Kotenko.

As noted in these changes, she continues, a number of treatments will still remain free, such as pregnancy management, basic services for children under 16, emergency examinations, mass screenings, including tuberculosis, but only if they are part of state programs. If they are not part of state programs, the journalist states, they will incur a fee.

“The second is additional services. For example, if you want a better room, you will need to pay for it, but that has always been the case. High-tech examinations such as MRI and CT scans will also be charged. However, this has always been paid for. I don’t remember CT and MRI being free for anyone,” explains Ekaterina Kotenko.

Additionally, in a situation where your neighbor recommends you see one doctor because he is better, rather than another who is worse, and you have a referral to the first one, you will have to pay for that visit.
