Billionaire Elon Musk achieved a significant victory recently when elected President Donald Trump announced that the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, along with Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead a new Department of Government Efficiency.
This development stems from the closeness Musk managed to establish with Trump during the election campaign. However, for some individuals within Trump's circle, Musk's presence appears to be excessive, as reported by CNBC.
According to two sources, Musk is so aggressively promoting his views on Trump’s second term that he is stepping on the toes of transition team members and may have overstayed his welcome at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Florida residence.
Musk's almost constant presence at Mar-a-Lago during the week following Election Day began to wear on those who have been close to Trump longer than the billionaire and who feel he is overstepping his bounds.
“He acts as if he is co-president and makes sure everyone knows it,” one source said anonymously about Musk. “And he is certainly taking a lot of credit for the president's victory. He boasts to America PAC and (on social media) X to anyone willing to listen. He’s trying to make President Trump feel indebted to him. But the president owes nothing to anyone.”
A second source noted that Musk has “opinions on everything” and shares them so insistently that he has begun to annoy Trump’s close associates.
“He wants to be seen as someone who has a say on all matters (even if that’s not the case),” the source said.
This same person pointed out that some of Trump’s advisors expressed concern that Musk does not understand one of the keys to effectiveness in Trump’s world – remaining low-key. Musk's behavior, according to the publication's source, has been overly aggressive and could harm his reputation in the long run.
“Musk seems to be pushing his own views instead of focusing on Trump,” stated an anonymous source.
In posts on social media X over the past week, Musk has promoted various political ideas, including those regarding the deportation of immigrants and reducing government spending.
Musk also shared photos from Mar-a-Lago, including one with Trump’s family. On Sunday, one of Trump’s grandsons, Kai Trump, posted a photo of himself with Musk, stating that Musk is “achieving uncle status.”
Background. Additionally, it was reported that Musk even participated in a phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
