Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets initiated an investigation of the Ministry of Education due to the unethical remarks made by 68-year-old professor and journalist Mykyta Vasylenko, who teaches at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The professor is accused of making sexist statements about Ukrainian women.
On Monday, December 23, Dmytro Lubinets responded to an interview with blogger Oleksandr Shelest, linked to sanctioned TV channels, in which Mykyta Vasylenko stated that approximately 40,000 "men with money, hungry for women" could arrive in Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping mission. He believes that foreigners might attract "thousands of hungry Ukrainian women" who "did not manage to leave, or whose husbands have been killed or injured."
Vasylenko's words sparked outrage among student and media communities, as well as on social media. The student parliament of the Institute of Journalism at KNU refused to cooperate with the university's administration until the professor is dismissed, demanding punishment for Vasylenko.
“I am reacting to his statements for the second time — I have written letters to the Ministry of Education with the aim of exercising state oversight (control) over the educational institution's activities and to the university demanding a service investigation. I also see the need to appeal to the Security Service of Ukraine,” – reported Dmytro Lubinets.
It is worth noting that Vasylenko was previously accused of pro-Russian views, including membership in the already banned party "Union of Left Forces," as well as participation in political talk shows on the channels of the traitorous MP Viktor Medvedchuk: "112 Ukraine," ZIK, NewsOne, and also on the channel "OUR" of Yevhen Murayev.
According to Dmytro Lubinets, the Ombudsman’s office is responding for the second time to Vasylenko's pro-Russian and sexist remarks – in February 2024, KNU students complained about the professor and demanded his dismissal, but the university administration only issued him a reprimand.
Recall that in February 2024, Ternopil National Pedagogical University suspended Professor Volodymyr Kravets for his sexist remarks. The 76-year-old Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Volodymyr Kravets told students that girls provoke rape themselves.
