Ukrainian law enforcement has successfully extradited a suspect from Bulgaria in a case involving the misappropriation of nearly 95 million UAH during the procurement of transformers for "Ukrzaliznytsia".

This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).

The suspect is the head of a private company that won a tender to supply AТ "Ukrzaliznytsia" with transformers at artificially inflated prices. The woman was part of a criminal group established in 2021 "to control the funds of AТ 'Ukrzaliznytsia'."

According to the investigation, from June to December 2022, the leader of the organized group, through controlled officials of the supplier, ensured the selection of a predetermined company as the supplier of power transformers. The supplies were made at an inflated cost: they were purchased through a shell company from a manufacturer, partially owned by legal entities from the Russian Federation, and were resold to UZ at twice the price.

As a result, "Ukrzaliznytsia" incurred losses amounting to 94.8 million UAH, which were appropriated by the participants in the scheme.

A judge from the High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect – detention with an alternative of posting bail in the amount of 9.9 million UAH.
