In Norway, the vessel Silver Dania, which was detained on suspicion of being involved in the damage of a fiber optic cable in the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Sweden, has been allowed to leave Tromsø.
This is reported by Radio Free Europe.
The ship was brought ashore with the assistance of the coast guard vessel KV Bison during an operation conducted by the police on Thursday, January 30.
The crew and the shipping company cooperated with Norwegian authorities and came voluntarily.
"The Tromsø police district has already conducted a number of investigative actions and ensured what we consider necessary in light of Latvia's request. The investigation will continue, but we see no reason for the vessel to remain in Tromsø. No conclusions have been made that link the vessel to this act," explained police prosecutor Ronny Jørgensen.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the Norwegian police, at the request of Latvian authorities, detained the vessel Silver Dania with a Russian crew on suspicion of damaging an underwater communication cable in the Baltic Sea. The vessel was taken to the port of Tromsø.
