German politicians were stirred by Elon Musk's post claiming that "only the AfD can save Germany."

The German government described the interference of the American billionaire just weeks before the elections as "shameful and problematic."

Ilon Musk sparked outrage in Berlin following his post on X, where he expressed support for the far-right pro-Russian party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD), which is against immigration, as reported by The Guardian.

Musk, who was appointed by Donald Trump to lead a new department aimed at reducing budget expenditures, stated on X: "Only AfD can save Germany."

He shared a video featuring German far-right influencer Naomi Seibt, who criticizes opposition leader Friedrich Merz, the frontrunner to become the next Chancellor of Germany.

Germany's Health Minister Karl Lauterbach described Musk's decision to interfere in German political debates just weeks before the early elections as "shameful and very problematic."

Early parliamentary elections are expected to be held in the country on February 23.

AfD currently ranks second in the polls. Germany's internal intelligence services have classified some of the party's members as right-wing extremists, and major German parties have promised to refrain from cooperating with AfD at the national level.

The German government provided only a brief response to Musk's post, indicating that it had taken note of it, but a spokesperson declined to offer any further comments.

At a press conference in Berlin, Olaf Scholz addressed a question regarding the tweet:

"We have freedom of speech here. This applies to multimillionaires as well. Freedom of speech also means that you can say things that are wrong and do not contain good political advice."

Former German Member of the European Parliament Elmar Brok referred to Musk's comments as "fantasies of global dominance by American tech kings."

Minister Lauterbach accused Musk of interfering in the elections and urged the authorities to "carefully monitor what is happening on X."

"It is very concerning how the X platform, which I myself use very intensively, is increasingly being used to spread Mr. Musk's political positions and goals," he remarked.

The most direct response to Musk's tweet came from Christian Lindner, head of the pro-business Free Democratic Party (FDP), whom Scholz dismissed from his position as finance minister due to deep disagreements.

Lindner wrote on X: "Ilon, I initiated political debates inspired by ideas from you and Maïli. While migration control is crucial for Germany, AfD stands against freedom, business – and it is a far-right extremist party. Don't rush to conclusions from afar. Let's meet, and I'll show you what the FDP stands for."

In May, AfD was expelled from the European parliamentary group of far-right parties following a statement from the AfD leader claiming that not all SS Nazis "were criminals."

This week, Nigel Farage, leader of the British pro-Russian Reform UK, published a photograph of himself meeting Musk at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, stating that Musk is willing to provide him with financial support to enhance his party's chances of entering the government.
