The Netishyn District Court has issued a verdict against a 25-year-old man from Kyiv for fraud. The accused forged documents and approached a charitable organization requesting a Mavic 3T drone for military use. However, the man intended to sell the acquired drone on OLX, but he was caught before he could do so. For his actions, the fraudster was fined 220,000 UAH.
According to information from the State Border Guard Service, in June of last year, the 25-year-old man submitted fake letters to a charitable organization in Netishyn, requesting the allocation of a Mavic 3T drone and two batteries for military needs. He provided documents that were allegedly signed by one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and certified with a forged seal of the 15th Mobile Border Detachment.
“After the equipment was handed over, the organization’s staff had doubts about the authenticity of the documents. It turned out that the fraudster had independently created the forged letters, seals, and signed the acceptance acts,” the border guard service noted.
Law enforcement conducted searches at the fraudster's home and vehicles, where they gathered necessary evidence. During the pre-trial investigation, the fraudster admitted his guilt and returned the drone, which has already been handed over to the unit involved in combat operations.
As clarified by ZAXID.NET in the 15th Mobile Border Detachment, the suspect planned to sell the drone on OLX.
On Monday, January 27, the Netishyn District Court found the 25-year-old man guilty of fraud and forgery of official documents (Part 3 of Article 190, Part 1 and Part 4 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and imposed a fine of 220,000 UAH. The decision can still be appealed in the appellate court.
