Analysts from InsureandGo (a company specializing in travel insurance) conducted research using the QuoDB database to identify which cities have been most frequently mentioned in films across various genres throughout cinematic history, starting from 1892.
It turns out that the most popular city in cinema is Paris, with a total of 33,078 mentions.
“Paris, leading with 33,078 mentions, is the most quoted city in film history and the only French city in the top twenty. 'We'll always have Paris' from the 1942 film 'Casablanca' is one of the most iconic phrases on the big screen, but it is not the only film that pays tribute to the city of love. Movies such as 'Pulp Fiction' (1994), 'Good Will Hunting' (1998), 'Inception' (2010), and the beloved animated feature 'Ratatouille' (2007) all reference the capital of France, cementing its status as a cultural landmark,” the study's authors noted.
Following Paris are London (UK) with 30,624 mentions and Rome (Italy) with 16,371 mentions, respectively. Paris is the only French city in the top 20, while the leading country is the USA.
