In Transcarpathia, a draft dodger from Kirovohrad region was hospitalized in intensive care due to frostbite.

Border guards in Transcarpathia, along with emergency service specialists, rescued a 24-year-old resident of Kirovohrad Oblast who suffered severe hypothermia while attempting to illegally enter Romania. The man is currently in intensive care.

As reported by the Western Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service on January 24, the man chose a high-altitude section of the border to enter the EU. When he was unable to complete the journey, he called for help.

“The search for the 24-year-old resident of Kirovohrad was complicated by deep snow cover and poor visibility, lasting over seven hours. The violator was found just 10 meters from the Ukrainian-Romanian border by soldiers from the 'Bohdan' unit in collaboration with specialists from the Rakhiv Mountain Search and Rescue Department,” said the State Border Guard Service.

The man was so exhausted that he could not speak. He was changed into dry, warm clothing, given hot tea, and handed over to medical personnel. Doctors diagnosed him with general hypothermia and dehydration. He is currently in intensive care.
