In the Kamen-Kashirsky district, law enforcement detained a 26-year-old resident of Kyiv region who attempted to bribe a border guard in Volyn with $3,000. It is known that the suspect intended to travel to Switzerland via Belarus, where his family resides. He faces a prison sentence ranging from four to eight years for his actions.
As reported by the specialized prosecutor's office for defense in the Western region on November 12, the 26-year-old man did not possess any permits to cross the border, which led him to attempt to bribe the deputy head of the border service in Volyn. The conscript offered $3,000 for assistance in "resolving the issue." However, the border guard informed the authorities about this incident and continued to act under their supervision.
"During the provision of part of the bribe amounting to $2,000, the man was detained. He is currently under house arrest as a preventive measure," the special prosecutor's office reports.
The resident of Kyiv region has been charged under Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (offering an unlawful benefit to an official). The sanctions of this article stipulate a prison term of four to eight years, with or without the confiscation of property.
