На танкере Eagle S обнаружили шпионское оборудование РФ, сообщают СМИ.

The Russian tanker Eagle S, detained by Finland and belonging to the "shadow fleet" of the Russian Federation, has been equipped with receiving and transmitting devices used for monitoring naval activities.

Lloyd's List reports this writes citing a source.

According to the sources, the equipment effectively turned the Eagle S into a spy vessel for Russia.

The tanker is outfitted with high-tech equipment that is atypical for a commercial ship and consumed a significant amount of energy from the ship's generator, leading to frequent power outages.

The equipment was transferred aboard the tanker in large portable cases. According to the source, laptops with keyboards for Turkish and Russian languages were also brought on board. The equipment was stored on the bridge – the highest point on the ship.

The publication's sources add that the equipment was used to record all radio frequencies and to monitor NATO naval ships and aircraft. Once on Russian territory, all the information was offloaded for analysis.

Moreover, the Eagle S, while passing through the English Channel, jettisoned "sensor-type devices" into the water.

Lloyd's List further adds that spy equipment was also installed on another tanker of the Russian "shadow fleet," the Swiftsea Rider.

The Eagle S sails under the flag of the Cook Islands, while the Swiftsea Rider operates under the flag of Honduras.

Both vessels are part of a group of 26 old tankers linked to Russia, which have opaque ownership structures and are under UK sanctions for supporting Putin's war machine. The tankers were acquired in 2022-2023 to circumvent sanctions and were transferred to Eiger Shipping, the shipping subsidiary of the Russian oil trader Litasco.
