In Poltava region, two suspects in the murder of a military officer from the TCC have been officially charged.

Law enforcement officials have announced charges against two residents of Lubny in the Poltava region for the murder of a soldier at a gas station.

According to information reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

“Under the procedural guidance of the Lubny District Prosecutor's Office, two individuals – residents of Lubny and Poltava – have been informed of their suspicion,” the statement reads.

One is charged with obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period, intentional murder, and the theft of firearms combined with violence (Part 1 of Article 114-1, Part 1 of Article 115, Part 3 of Article 262 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The other faces charges of aiding and abetting in obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, on January 31 of this year, a resident of Poltava, along with other mobilized individuals, was traveling under the escort of servicemen from the Poltava District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (RTCK and SP) to training at a military unit.

“Intending to evade military service, he called a friend from Lubny several times to inform him of the bus route. When the bus stopped at a gas station in Pyryatyn, a resident of Lubny shot one of the escorts with a rifle he had brought with him, inflicting a gunshot wound incompatible with life on the serviceman. Subsequently, he seized the victim's automatic weapon and fled the scene with an accomplice,” the agency reported.

Law enforcement managed to apprehend the suspects. During a search, two grenade bodies, a hunting rifle, ammunition, a balaclava, mobile phones, and other items were seized. The physical evidence has been sent for examination. The soldier's automatic weapon was found in a forested area where the suspects had discarded it.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is ongoing. The issue of choosing preventive measures for the suspects is being resolved.
