In the early hours of Friday, November 22, a family of six, including children, was poisoned by carbon monoxide in the village of Novosilky-Hostynni in the Rudky community of Lviv region.
According to the Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Assistance and Disaster Medicine, the incident occurred in the village of Novosilky-Hostynni at 4:40 AM. Three emergency medical teams provided assistance at the scene.
Three injured children, aged 6, 10, and 12, were hospitalized at the Saint Nicholas Hospital in Lviv. The father was taken to the Saint Panteleimon Hospital. The other two adults did not require hospitalization.
Medical professionals remind that it is impossible to detect carbon monoxide in a residence without special sensors. At some point, the victim may suddenly feel unwell: experiencing weakness, increased heart rate, dizziness, or loss of consciousness.
In the event of carbon monoxide poisoning, it is essential to open windows; if possible, the victim should be moved to fresh air and freed from tight clothing that hinders breathing. If the victim is unconscious, a piece of cotton or a swab soaked in ammonia should be held near their nose. If the victim is conscious, they should be given a large amount of liquid.
