In Lviv region, lawmakers were unable to dismiss a village elder who has a criminal record for assaulting an elderly woman.

As reported by ZAXID.NET, the lawyer for the injured pensioner, Oleg Mytsyk, stated that following a prosecutor's request, the village council conducted an internal investigation, ultimately agreeing with the "prosecutor's request and the disgracefulness of the committed offense." Subsequently, the issue of terminating the powers of the village head, Bohdan Habrus, was brought to the Kozivska village council session. However, the deputies failed to pass the vote.

Members of the Koziv Village Council in the Lviv region failed to vote on the termination of the powers of elder Bohdan Habrus, who was conditionally sentenced for assaulting a pensioner with a stick. Habrus himself admitted his guilt only during his final statement in court.

As reported to ZAXID.NET by the lawyer of the victimized pensioner, Oleg Mytsyk, following the prosecutor's request, the village council conducted a service investigation, agreeing with the "prosecutor's request and the disgrace of the committed offense". After this, the issue of terminating the powers of elder Bohdan Habrus was brought to the Koziv Village Council session. However, the deputies failed to pass the vote.

According to the named vote, on December 20, 2024, 16 deputies attended the Koziv Village Council session. None of them voted for the termination of the powers of the elder of the villages of Dovzhky and Kryve, Bohdan Habrus: 15 deputies, including village head Vasyl Shchekun, abstained, and one deputy did not vote. ZAXID.NET reached out to the village council but could not obtain a comment from the village head on this matter.

The elder of district No. 1 of the Koziv Village Council in the Lviv region, Bohdan Habrus, was conditionally sentenced because in August 2021 he assaulted a 73-year-old woman whose cow was grazing on a football field in the village of Kryve. Bohdan Habrus inflicted bodily injuries on pensioner Khyristyna Buhrynets, according to the forensic medical expert's conclusion, including fractures of fingers, a fracture of the radius, bruises, and abrasions on her head, arms, chest, thigh, and shin.

Bohdan Habrus repeatedly denied his guilt and acknowledged it only during his final statement. According to the pensioner's lawyer Oleg Mytsyk, he did this "under pressure from the examined and verified evidence presented in court, which did not contribute to the disclosure of the criminal offense but, on the contrary, obstructed it".

Mytsyk also emphasized that for almost 3 years since the assault, Bohdan Habrus has never inquired about the health condition of the pensioner and has not attempted to reconcile.
