In Kharkiv region, officials were exposed for embezzling nearly 20 million UAH through road repair contracts.

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations uncovered a group that included officials from one of the territorial communities in Kharkiv region. They misappropriated nearly 20 million UAH intended for road repairs.

This was reported by the press service of the SBI.

According to the investigation, in 2023, the deputy head of one of the territorial communities initiated the signing of 12 contracts for the repair of local roads with two pre-selected companies.

As law enforcement officials note, the scheme involved an enlisted specialist who was supposed to oversee the technical supervision of the repairs, despite being on duty, the director of the private company that carried out the repairs, two foremen, an employee of a commercial structure, as well as an authorized person responsible for procurement in the territorial community.

“To misappropriate the funds allocated for repairs, the perpetrators skimped on the quality of asphalt and other materials, inflated the volumes of work performed, and the amount of sand, gravel, etc., purchased. In particular, the specialist responsible for technical supervision did not even conduct inspections of the completed work but signed off on the documents,” the statement reads.

During searches, over 1 million UAH in cash and rough records with evidence of illegal activities were seized from the suspects.
