In Dnipropetrovsk region, the deputy commander of a military unit has been charged. According to investigators, he embezzled night vision devices. This was reported on Monday, January 27, by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR).

Investigators determined that the deputy commander was responsible for the logistics of the unit. In official documents, the military indicated that 24 night vision devices were supposedly lost in combat conditions. However, in reality, he ordered his subordinates to hide the equipment in a warehouse among the trash. The total value of the embezzled night vision devices amounts to nearly 4 million UAH.

The DBR conducted searches at the location of the military unit, warehouses, and the suspect's residence, seizing the stolen equipment. The deputy commander has been charged with the embezzlement of military property with abuse of power, causing substantial harm, committed under martial law (Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

The court has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 7.7 million UAH.

“As part of the pre-trial investigation, the involvement of other military personnel in the crime is being checked, including the unit's command. A service investigation and inventory of military property in the unit have also been initiated,” the DBR reported.

Recall that on January 23, the DBR reported suspicion against the commander of the material support group of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade, who is involved in a scheme to evade service. Earlier in this case, the commander of the brigade, Ruslan Shelest, was also charged.
