In the evening of February 26, border guards from the Mukachevo detachment apprehended six men attempting to illegally enter the EU via the Tisza River. Administrative protocols were drawn up against residents from Cherkasy, Kherson, and Transcarpathia for illegal border crossing.
As reported by the Western Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service on February 27, a response group from the border service unit "Vylok" detained four evaders immediately after they breached a fence. Three of the men cut their hands on the barbed wire and required assistance.
“All of them are residents of Cherkasy. They intended to enter the Tisza River following the instructions of smugglers who assured them that the river was shallow and completely safe. For such promises, the men paid the smugglers an advance of $2,500 each,” – stated the State Border Guard Service.
Another two evaders – a resident of Transcarpathia and a man from Kherson, who independently planned a route across the Tisza River, were detained by a patrol from the "Velykyi Bychkov" border service on the outskirts of the village of Luh, just 30 meters from the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
Administrative protocols for illegal border crossing were drawn up against all detainees. The State Border Guard Service noted that since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion, 44 bodies have been retrieved from the Tisza.
