Subscribe“The recipient of Zelensky's interview is Mr. Lukashenko. Apparently, our president sees some role for Lukashenko and Belarus in the future arrangement that he will negotiate with Trump,” notes Mikhail Sheitelman.
In particular, he recalls, during his interview with Friedman, Zelensky shared an intriguing story about how in the early days of the full-scale war, Lukashenko called him to apologize for Belarus's involvement, insisted that he was not to blame, and even suggested bombing his own Mozyr Oil Refinery in retaliation. According to the expert, knowing Lukashenko, one could easily believe this.
Thus, he asserts, it is evident that through this interview, Zelensky is extending a hand to Lukashenko. Moreover, the expert reasons, there seems to be some sort of separate agreement in place, as since the summer of 2022, we have not been bombed from Belarusian territory, and the Europeans have not imposed new sanctions on Belarus.
“Apparently, remembering that Lukashenko is a person capable of resolving certain issues (he managed to disarm Prigozhin), Zelensky is trying to utilize him for the future arrangement. By the way, did you know that Zelensky mentioned that his meeting with Trump is scheduled for around January 25, where they will discuss the construction of a future world, which, frankly, will not happen because Putin will not agree, but I believe they will attempt to involve Lukashenko in this arrangement,” explains Mikhail Sheitelman.
