The President of Mexico has tasked the Ministry of Economy with preparing the necessary measures in accordance with Plan "B," which, according to her, includes both customs and non-customs actions.
Мексика обещает ответить на пошлины США.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum ordered the implementation of tariffs on Saturday in response to the United States' decision to impose a 25% duty on all Mexican goods.

According to Reuters, this was reported with reference to a post by the Mexican leader on social media platform X.

"Mexico does not seek confrontation. We begin with cooperation between neighboring countries. Mexico not only does not want fentanyl to reach the United States but nowhere else. To this end, I propose to President Trump to establish a working group with our best health and security teams. Problems are not solved by implementing tariffs, but through conversation and dialogue, as we have done in recent weeks with your State Department to address the phenomenon of migration, in our case with respect for human rights," wrote Claudia Sheinbaum.

The Mexican president instructed the Ministry of Economy to prepare appropriate measures according to "Plan B," which, according to her, includes tariff and non-tariff actions in response to Trump's actions.

She also rejected the White House's assertion that drug cartels are allied with the Mexican government – a claim that the Trump administration used to justify the tariffs. Trump stated that tariffs against Mexico are related to the country's inability to stop the influx of the deadly opioid fentanyl into the U.S., as well as what he termed uncontrolled migration.

According to informed sources cited by Reuters, Mexico is preparing potential corresponding tariffs on imports from the U.S. ranging from 5% to 20% on pork, cheese, fresh produce, industrial steel, and aluminum. The automotive industry will initially be exempt from tariffs, the unnamed sources added.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on imports from China, Mexico, and Canada due to "the extraordinary threat posed by illegal aliens and drugs."
