Keir Starmer addressed Elon Musk's allegations regarding his involvement in the inadequate investigation of child abuse in the UK.

Amid calls to imprison Starmer, Musk promises to fund the British far-right party Reform UK.

American businessman Elon Musk has, through provocation and manipulation, once again made the painful topic of child sexual exploitation a headline issue for Britain today. For the second day in a row, the front pages of newspapers are dedicated to it, reports BBC.

In just two days of his campaign against the British authorities – January 5-6 – Elon Musk published 54 tweets criticizing how child violence cases are investigated in the UK (for comparison, he tweeted about his company SpaceX only twice).

For several decades, the UK has indeed recorded mass cases of child sexual abuse and the coercion of minors into prostitution. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that organized groups from other countries, most often from Pakistan, are often involved. The British authorities have refrained from disclosing the nationality of the criminals to avoid racial conflicts.

The catalyst for Elon Musk's attack was the refusal of the ruling Labour government on January 1 to conduct a national investigation into child violence cases in cities in northern England.

The authorities of Oldham, one of these cities, requested a national investigation. However, Deputy Home Secretary Jess Phillips denied this, stating that a local police investigation would be effective.

Elon Musk launched an attack. He simply suggested imprisoning Phillips, then claimed that hundreds of thousands, even millions, of cases of violence are covered up by the authorities, including the current Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who led the Crown Prosecution Service from 2008 to 2013.

Musk asserts that Starmer knew about and concealed the scale of what was happening. In response, Health Minister Karin Smith reminded that Starmer was applauded for his efforts to combat “grooming gangs” during those years while serving as the head of the Department of Public Prosecutions.

The BBC's fact-checking department confirmed that during Starmer's tenure at the Crown Prosecution Service, there was an increase in criminal cases against those who exploit children sexually.

In response to Musk's accusations, Starmer stated that when he worked at the prosecution, he reopened previously closed and unproven cases of violence and coercion of minors into prostitution. He also initiated the first high-profile case against an ethnic gang for this very issue.

Without naming Musk, Starmer said that “those who spread lies and misinformation widely are not thinking about the victims, but about themselves.”

He also defended Jess Phillips from the Home Office and her decision not to initiate a national investigation into new cases of child violence, leaving it at the local level. According to him, she has done a thousand times more for victims of violence than those who attack her.

“I appreciate the sharpness and intensity of politics, active debates, but they must be based on facts and truth, not on lies, not on statements from those who are so desperately seeking attention that they are willing to demean themselves and their country,” Starmer stated.

In December, Elon Musk met in the USA with British politician Nigel Farage, leader of the right-wing party Reform UK, who has previously been noted for his affection for Putin. Farage even claimed that Musk was ready to finance his party.

However, during those days on Twitter, Musk stated that the party needed a different leader. He also demanded in all caps the immediate release of Tommy Robinson, one of the leading British far-right figures with four convictions. He is currently serving an 18-month sentence for contempt of court.

British conservatives have long collaborated with Elon Musk, but now voices from their side have emerged stating that demanding freedom for Tommy Robinson is “outrightly dangerous.”

The Labour Party, in general, also maintains a cautious position. They are primarily concerned that Musk might actually begin funding Reform UK and significantly strengthen the position of this far-right party.

Background. Recall that Musk suggested that the United States “liberate the people of Britain from their tyrannical government.” He posted a poll with this suggestion on his account on platform X – and by the way, supporters of the idea of American intervention are winning it.
