On Saturday, January 25, the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mikhail Drapatiy introduced the new head of the National Academy of the Ground Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachny. Colonel Roman Kachur has taken the helm of the military academy in Lviv.

«The task ahead of Colonel Kachur is challenging yet extremely important – to ensure high-quality training for officers who will not only possess theoretical knowledge but also be prepared to conduct modern maneuver warfare, commanding units in a high-tech battlefield and rapidly changing situations», – wrote Major General Mikhail Drapatiy.

According to the Commander of the Ground Forces, the national academy in Lviv should become not only a center for military education but also the true heart of the army, where the elite of the Ground Forces is formed.

«I want to emphasize: we have everything necessary to transform the Academy into one of the best institutions of modern military education in the world», – added Mikhail Drapatiy.

It is worth noting that the new head of the National Academy of the Ground Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachny was elected by the military themselves through the "Army+" application.

As reported by ZAXID.NET, 40-year-old Colonel Roman Kachur commanded the 55th Separate Artillery Brigade "Zaporizhzhia Sich," which is the oldest artillery brigade in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He hails from Sumy and studied at the Sumy Military Institute of Rocket Forces and Artillery.

Since 2014, Kachur served as the artillery chief of the 81st Separate Air Assault Brigade, and in 2018, he became the commander of the 55th Brigade "Zaporizhzhia Sich." He participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), and since the onset of full-scale war, his brigade has been fighting in the Donetsk direction. In 2016 and 2022, Kachur was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of I, II, and III degrees. In May 2022, the president conferred upon Kachur the title of Hero of Ukraine.

It should be noted that the previous head of the military Academy for 20 years was General Pavlo Tkachuk. Investigations into illegal enrichment were initiated against him, and there were numerous complaints from students, while ten criminal proceedings were opened regarding abuses by academy officials following the start of the full-scale invasion.
