The commander of the 211th pontoon-bridge brigade has been taken into custody again.

The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has chosen a preventive measure for the commander of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade – detention with the possibility of posting a bail of 12 million 112 thousand UAH.

Prosecutors demanded that Oleg Poberezhniuk be held in custody with the right to post bail in the amount of 40 million UAH. The prosecution also filed a motion with the court to suspend the suspect from performing his official duties.

Poberezhniuk is suspected of inaction by military authorities during a state of war or in a combat situation. The penalty under the article stipulates imprisonment for a term of 7 to 10 years. According to law enforcement sources, the suspect failed to respond to reports of inhumane treatment and torture of soldiers under his command. From February to July 2024, he was aware that a subordinate platoon commander was exceeding his authority by abusing subordinate soldiers. However, the brigade commander did not initiate any actions regarding the officer’s accountability.

The commander of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade is also suspected of abuse of official position. The court has placed him in custody. Poberezhniuk was released from the pre-trial detention center after posting a bail of 908,400 UAH.

Earlier, Mind reported that soldiers from the 211th brigade told journalists about the abuses by the commander of one of the platoons in the first battalion, who is the godson of brigade commander Oleg Poberezhniuk. Colonel Poberezhniuk himself sent four soldiers to Khmelnytskyi, where they built his private house.
