The newly elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, has chosen a candidate for the position of White House press secretary. He has nominated 27-year-old Caroline Levitt, who could become the youngest spokesperson for a presidential administration in U.S. history.
Trump announced his decision to nominate Levitt on social media platform X on Saturday, November 16. According to him, the woman performed “phenomenally” as the spokesperson for his campaign.
“Caroline is smart, tough, and she has proven to be a very effective communicator. I am fully confident that she will succeed at the podium and help convey our message to the American people as we make America great again,” Trump wrote.
Reuters, citing advisors to the president from the Republican Party, reported that Levitt impressed Trump with her “passionate defense of him in interviews” and her tough conversational style. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Caroline Levitt's role will be to inform the public about Donald Trump's activities while maintaining loyalty to him.
It should be noted that Levitt could become the youngest individual to serve as a U.S. spokesperson. The current youngest spokesperson is Ron Ziegler, who took office at 29 during Richard Nixon's administration.
What is known about Caroline Levitt
From 2017 to 2021, Levitt served as an assistant to Trump's press secretary during his first term. After Trump’s defeat in the presidential elections against Joe Biden, she became the communications director for Republican U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik. Notably, Stefanik also secured a position in Trump's new administration—he nominated her for the role of U.S. ambassador to the UN.
Caroline Levitt joined Trump’s 2024 campaign and is the chief representative of the newly elected president's transition team. Regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war, she supports Trump's position and suggests starting negotiations immediately after his inauguration. It is worth recalling that Trump previously claimed he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours after his inauguration.
It is important to note that Donald Trump must form a new administration before his inauguration on January 20, 2025. A complete list of candidates for Donald Trump's administration can be found here.
