Honda and Nissan aim to conclude merger discussions by June 2025.
According to a report from Reuters citing a source.
The source noted that the companies might publish an agreement to "explore merger opportunities" today: the boards of Honda and Nissan have convened for a meeting, after which they will hold a joint press conference alongside Mitsubishi Motors.
If the automakers reach a merger agreement by the stipulated deadline, they plan to establish a joint holding company by August 2026. At that point, shares of the new market participant are expected to be listed on the stock exchange, while Honda and Nissan will be delisted. The source claims that Honda will appoint the majority of the board for the newly formed holding company.
Note. Since March 2024, the automakers have announced a strategic partnership and joint development of electric vehicles. However, recently Nissan has been facing financial and strategic challenges. The company has discussed merging with both Honda and Mitsubishi Motors.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Honda and Nissan are in talks about joint vehicle production at each other's factories. Additionally, Honda is considering supplying hybrid vehicles to Nissan.
