As a result of a successful operation by the GUR MO and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Saturday, December 21, 34 individuals were evacuated from Syria through Lebanon. This was reported by Ukrainian intelligence.
It is known that among those evacuated are 31 Ukrainian citizens and 3 Syrian citizens, relatives of Ukrainians who have the legal right to enter the country. Notably, 15 children were rescued among them.
The evacuated Ukrainians and Syrians landed at Chisinau Airport on Saturday, from where they will continue their journey home.
“The important operation carried out today to rescue Ukrainians from Syria is further proof that Ukraine supports its citizens—everywhere, all the time. Military intelligence officers, along with their colleagues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are doing everything possible to protect the rights of our people and assist everyone in need,” stated Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, head of the GUR MO of Ukraine.
The post adds that since August 2024, the GUR MO and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have conducted four stages of evacuation from Lebanon, rescuing 302 individuals, including 217 Ukrainians and 85 citizens of other countries.
Recall that on October 9, the fourth stage of evacuation from Lebanon took place. Ukrainian intelligence officers and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs evacuated another 68 people.
