From February 15 to March 31, 2025, there will be a ban on catching pike due to its spawning season.
The State Environmental Inspection reminds that during this period, there will be restrictions on pike fishing in water bodies.
The primary goal of this ban is to protect the species during reproduction and to aid in the natural recovery of the population. Scientists have determined that pike spawning begins at water temperatures of 3-5 ℃, which is typical for most individuals. Unlike other fish, pike spawn earlier, sometimes even under the ice. As a predator, it plays a significant role in the aquatic ecosystem by regulating the numbers of weakened and small fish, which contributes to the healthy development of other species.
Catching pike during the prohibited period is a violation of environmental protection legislation according to Article 85 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (КУоАП). A fine of 3468 UAH is imposed for each illegally caught individual.
We also remind you that there is a ban on fishing in wintering holes at the beginning of the spring-summer spawning period of 2025.
Throughout the entire duration of the ban, intensified monitoring will be conducted: inspectors will check the catch of fishermen and the legality of the sale of aquatic bioresources.
