The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced his choice for the future Director of National Intelligence. He has nominated former Congresswoman and Iraq War veteran Tulsi Gabbard for the position, according to CNN.
“For over two decades, Tulsi has fought for our country and the freedom of all Americans. As a former presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, she has broad support across both parties – now she is a proud Republican!” Trump stated in his announcement regarding Gabbard's selection.
43-year-old Gabbard ran for president in the 2020 elections but endorsed Joe Biden.
After being a member of the Democratic Party, she left it in 2022. Two years later, she joined the ranks of the Republicans. Gabbard has dedicated nearly her entire life to military service and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
She advocates for an anti-war stance and opposes U.S. intervention in the internal affairs of other countries. Additionally, she supports the legalization of abortion and same-sex marriage.
Furthermore, on November 13, it was revealed that Trump has chosen Republican Matt Gaetz for the position of U.S. Attorney General.
“Matt will put an end to the armed government, protect our borders, dismantle criminal organizations, and restore the severely damaged faith and confidence of Americans in the Department of Justice,” Trump announced on the Truth Social platform, as reported by CNN.
Matt Gaetz is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida. He was one of those who voted for Trump's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2021, he opposed Donald Trump's second impeachment.
Background. It is worth noting that the day before, Trump officially nominated Marco Rubio for the position of Secretary of State. Recently, Rubio stated that the war in Ukraine should be resolved through negotiations.
