According to the Slovak Prime Minister, one-third of the participants in the mass protests against his government's policies, which began on January 24, are Ukrainians. Robert Fico reported this on Saturday, January 25, in an interview for the local publication Aktuality.
The Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that Ukraine is involved in the anti-government protests in Bratislava and other cities across the country.
“These protests are not 100% organized by the opposition. This 'mess', as they say, is being orchestrated by someone else. It is being conducted by non-governmental organizations funded from abroad, such as 'Peace for Ukraine', which is personally linked to 'Progressive Slovakia',” Fico noted.
According to him, Ukrainians make up one-third of all protesters.
“Ukrainian television is covering the protests where one-third of the participants are Ukrainians shouting against the Slovak government. I don’t understand why Ukrainians should be shouting at the Slovak government,” the Prime Minister added.
Furthermore, Fico reacted negatively to a post by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky supporting the protests in Slovakia.
“Bratislava is not Moscow. Slovakia is Europe,” wrote Zelensky in Slovak on January 24.
Recall that on Friday, January 24, protests against the policies of pro-Russian Prime Minister Robert Fico began in several cities across Slovakia. Thousands of people, who support a pro-European course and aid to Ukraine, attended the rallies.
These are not the first protests against Fico's policies – earlier in January, people also took to the streets to protest the Prime Minister's pro-Russian stance.
