France and the United Kingdom have permitted Ukraine to strike Russian territory using its long-range SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles.
Source. This information was reported by the newspaper Le Figaro.
Recently, The New York Times indicated that the White House has lifted the ban on strikes. Joe Biden made this decision two months before handing power to Donald Trump, who aims to reduce support for Ukraine.
Targets may include troops that "threaten Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region," the publication noted, but Biden might allow Kyiv to use long-range weaponry in other locations as well.
It is mentioned that Biden made this decision in response to the presence of North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region.
The first ATACMS strikes on Russia are expected to occur in the coming days, according to sources cited by Reuters. Agency insiders stated that a modification of the missiles with a range of 300 km will be utilized.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the leaks from the White House to the press, emphasizing that strikes are not conducted through words and such matters are not announced:
“Today, there is a lot of talk in the media about us receiving permission for corresponding actions. However, strikes are not executed with words. Such things are not announced. The missiles will speak for themselves.”
He added that long-range strikes by the Ukrainian army are one of the key elements of his "victory plan."
Background. As highlighted by ISW, the U.S. should allow Ukraine to strike Russia with missiles along the entire border perimeter, as currently, media reports suggest that permission is only granted within the Kursk region.
