French leftists propose deploying UN peacekeepers at "Ukrainian and Russian" nuclear power plants.

The NNF aims to appeal to the French government for support of this initiative.

In France, the left-wing party bloc "New People's Front" (NNF) has submitted a resolution proposal to the parliament (National Assembly) concerning the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.

This resolution "aims to ask the French government to propose a resolution to the UN Security Council calling for the deployment of peacekeepers near Ukrainian and Russian nuclear power plants," the document states.

The NNF intends to appeal to the French government to support all initiatives within the framework of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly that would enhance the safety of Ukrainian and Russian nuclear power plants, the authors of the proposal note.

It is unclear what is meant by "Russian nuclear power plants in Ukraine." If the NNF is referring to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which has been occupied by Russians, calling it a Russian nuclear power plant would legitimize the Russian occupation.

They might be referring to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, located in the Russian city of Kurchatov, which is situated near the front line and the positions of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region.

Background. Recently, it became known that the Zaporizhzhia NPP is on the brink of losing power: the occupiers have damaged a high-voltage line. The station is currently powered by a backup line, and restoration work is ongoing.
