The sixth of the planned IRIS-T air defense systems from Germany is set to arrive in Ukraine by the end of this year. This was reported by the President's Office, referencing a conversation between Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on November 13.
The parties discussed the volumes of air defense system supplies for the next year and potential additional assistance in air defense resources from Germany.
“Olaf Scholz announced that the sixth of the planned IRIS-T air defense systems will arrive in Ukraine by the end of this year,” the statement read.
During the conversation, Volodymyr Zelensky and Olaf Scholz agreed that meetings in the "Ramstein" format should continue and emphasized the importance of holding another meeting of the coordination group.
“Volodymyr Zelensky also stated that the Ukrainian vision for a just and lasting peace should be presented at the G20 meeting in Brazil, and thanked Germany for its support in this matter,” the President's Office added.
The press service of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also reported on the conversation between the politicians, but did not mention the delivery of the IRIS-T air defense systems.
In September of this year, Olaf Scholz announced that Germany would provide Ukraine with 17 additional IRIS-T air defense systems by 2026. According to him, Germany has already delivered seven IRIS-T systems to Ukraine and will send four of the announced 17 systems by the end of 2024.
Recall that on October 19, Ukraine and Germany signed an agreement to strengthen air defense. Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, and Denmark will also join the agreement. According to Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, under the agreement, the signatory countries commit to contributing to joint projects or financing their own projects aimed at strengthening Ukrainian air defense.
Earlier, on October 18, Germany delivered another aid package to Ukraine, which included air defense systems, battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and ammunition.
