The day before, Shakhtar faced a disappointing defeat against the Dutch PSV in the 5th round of the revamped Champions League. The Donetsk team was leading 2:0 until the 87th minute, but ultimately succumbed to a 2:3 loss. One of the standout players of the match was Shakhtar's goalkeeper, Dmytro Riznyk.
As reported by Sofascore Football, the 25-year-old goalkeeper set a Champions League record for the most saves made in a single match. PSV took a total of 34 shots on Shakhtar's goal, requiring Riznyk to intervene directly 15 times. In doing so, the Shakhtar keeper surpassed Israeli goalkeeper Omri Glazer of Crvena Zvezda, who saved the Serbian team's goal 13 times in a match against Manchester City during the 2023/24 season.
Overall, Riznyk made 26 saves across five matches in the main round of the Champions League. He shares second place with Dominik Takac from Slovan Bratislava. Before the match against PSV, the Ukrainian goalkeeper was ranked 14th.
