Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations detained a lawyer in Dnipro who was helping conscripts avoid mobilization in exchange for bribes. He utilized connections in one of the local Territorial Recruitment Centers for this purpose. This was reported on Friday, January 24, by the press service of the SBI.
Investigators found that for $12,000, the detained individual promised the conscript to arrange fictitious medical treatment at a healthcare facility, and then provide a package of documents from one of the local recruitment centers that would allow him to avoid mobilization and leave the country. Additionally, he assured the draft dodger that he would organize transportation and guaranteed that during border crossing he would "not be asked unnecessary questions."
Agents from the SBI apprehended the lawyer while he was receiving payment of $12,000. During a search of his vehicle, they discovered military registration documents for three more draft dodgers with resolutions and seals from one of the local recruitment centers.
The detained individual was informed of the suspicion of receiving illegal benefits for influencing decision-making, combined with extortion (Part 3, Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces a penalty of up to nine years in prison. The court has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of custody with the right to bail set at 500,000 UAH.
Currently, law enforcement is identifying all individuals involved in the criminal scheme, including among the employees of the recruitment centers.
Recall that on January 22, the Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of a lawyer from Dnipro who was correcting Russian strikes on the city. As a result of one such attack, six people were killed, and another 30 were injured.
