The accountant of a military unit in the Odesa region embezzled 2.3 million UAH in payments for missing soldiers. According to the State Bureau of Investigation, this occurred due to the official's negligence. This was reported by the press service of the SBI on Friday, January 31.

Investigators found that the military unit's accountant had indicated the bank account of a friend in the documentation for salary payments over the course of a year. The head of the financial and economic service failed to verify the data and signed the documents for the transfer of payments. In this manner, the unit's accountant embezzled 2.3 million UAH in payments meant for missing military personnel.

“An indictment against the accountant has been submitted to the court by the National Police. The suspect is currently in custody. A civil lawsuit has been filed for the recovery of damages,” the SBI report states.

The head of the financial and economic service of the military unit has been notified of suspicion for negligence (Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces a penalty of up to 8 years in prison.

Recall that in August 2024, the SBI uncovered the deputy commander of a military unit in Odesa. He was registering people for service who were actually at home, and embezzling their payments. As a result, he misappropriated about 20 million UAH.
