The United Kingdom has announced the imposition of sanctions against 30 vessels from Russia's "shadow" fleet that are involved in oil transportation.
This is reported on the website of the UK government.
According to the statement, these ships have been helping Russia generate "billions of pounds" annually. It is known that approximately half of these vessels exported oil products worth £4.3 billion during 2024.
The British government noted that the country has imposed sanctions on 73 Russian tankers. Additionally, 46 partners have joined the initiative to combat Russia's "shadow" fleet.
"This move will further restrict the Kremlin's ability to finance their illegal war in Ukraine and malicious activities worldwide... The 'shadow' fleet also poses significant risks to global trade. Many tankers blatantly disregard essential safety standards, increasing the likelihood of catastrophic oil spills," the statement read.
Background. Previously, Mind reported that Britain had introduced new sanctions against Russia – the largest package of restrictions in a year. These sanctions, it is noted, undermine the supply of vital equipment for "Putin's war machine."
