Eastern European nations are urging the Biden administration to support Ukraine in every possible way before the end of its term.

Leaders and officials from European countries are requesting the U.S. to provide Kyiv with additional weapons and ammunition, as well as to impose further sanctions on Russia to limit its revenues and ability to purchase banned technologies used in weapon production.

Source. This is reported by Bloomberg citing informed sources, adding that many discussions are of an unofficial nature.

The U.S. is already working to implement new sanctions against the shadow oil fleet and North Korea, which supplies ammunition and now also soldiers to Russia, by the end of November, according to people familiar with the matter.

Following Donald Trump's victory, Europeans have begun to actively seek additional funding to support Ukraine and discuss how they can replace the U.S. if a new Trump administration halts assistance.

According to several European officials, the main issue is not so much the money but the availability of military resources, as the U.S. predominantly supplies the armaments.

Some EU leaders also insist that Biden allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles to strike military targets within Russia, Bloomberg reports.

According to Europeans and Ukrainians, this would enable Ukraine to deter the Russian offensive, protect frontline and rear facilities, and strengthen territorial positions ahead of potential negotiations.

“We are engaging with our American friends and partners, and I sincerely hope that we will continue to support Ukrainians, including concerning long-range strikes,” said Benjamin Haddad, France's Minister for European Affairs, to Bloomberg.

He stated that the bases in Russia from which attacks on Ukraine are launched will become legitimate targets for Kyiv in its defense of its territory.

On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Brussels to assure NATO and EU allies that Washington will ramp up efforts to send all possible resources to Ukraine ahead of Trump's inauguration.

“Every dollar at our disposal” will be spent urgently, Blinken stated.

However, the resources he mentioned—money, ammunition, and weapons—largely come from a $61 billion package approved by Congress in April. Not all weapons can be delivered to Ukraine in the coming months, even if Washington allocates funding for them.

“The next few weeks will be crucial in securing a strong position for Ukraine,” believes Mark Leonard, co-founder and director of the European Council on Foreign Relations.

Background. Meanwhile, Forbes reported that Taiwan has “quietly” armed Ukraine with critically important air defense systems. Decommissioned Taiwanese air defense batteries could make up nearly a third of Ukraine's shield against Russian air attacks.
