Andriy Sadovyi: Preserving cities means preserving the nation.

Preserving cities means preserving the state, and this is crucial for all of us. Ukraine, as a candidate for EU membership, represents not just a collection of countries but also cities and regions. I am grateful that the President recognizes this.

Continuing from my video regarding fund withdrawals from city budgets, I made a bold statement this week. Some appreciated it, while others did not. My stance is clear – we have one enemy.

Preserving cities means preserving the state, and this is crucial for all of us. Ukraine is a candidate for EU membership – a union not just of countries, but of cities and regions as well. I am grateful that the President understands this.

To avoid falling into mutual conflict, we must listen to each other. The only successful reform in Ukraine is the decentralization reform.

Decentralization is about trust and fairness. It’s not about taking away; it’s about ensuring that financial resources remain in communities to enhance their capabilities.

My recipe is this: every city has many partners abroad. However, first and foremost, we need to be partners within our own country.
We should stitch the country together through direct partnership agreements between communities, and each agreement should include, among other things, financial support. This will be the golden mean.

Reversal funds should be allocated to support communities and our military units. From community to community, from city to military.

I propose that the MPs of the Verkhovna Rada, government officials, and community leaders dedicate the next week to finding a common compromise in the interests of Ukraine.

In unity, there is strength! Glory to Ukraine!
