A 23-year-old from Lviv has set a world record in laser running.

At the Winter Championship of Ukraine in modern pentathlon, Lviv resident Yuriy Kovalchuk set a new world record in the laser-run discipline. The record was reported by the NOC of Ukraine in the Lviv region.

The Winter Championship of Ukraine in modern pentathlon concluded on Sunday, February 2, in Kyiv. During the competition, 23-year-old Lvivian Yuriy Kovalchuk claimed victory, setting a new world record in the laser-run discipline with a time of 9 minutes and 35 seconds. Laser-run is a form of modern pentathlon that includes running and shooting with a laser pistol.

The athlete, an international class sports master of Ukraine, Yuriy Kovalchuk, is coached by his father Andriy Kovalchuk, alongside Oleg Fialkovych, Vitaliy Tarnakin, Andriy Orlikovsky, and Dmytro Kirpulyansky. In the individual men's ranking, 23-year-old Yuriy Kovalchuk from Lviv placed fourth.

The champion of Ukraine in the women's individual ranking became 22-year-old representative from Lviv region, Olha Klunnikova (coaches – Vitaliy Tarnakin, Olha Shevtsova, Andriy Orlikovsky).
