The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced that they have uncovered a "top rat from the FSB" within their ranks, who was detained on February 12 by the head of the SBU, Vasyl Maliuk.
This was reported by the agency's press service.
The SBU claims that the individual in question was the head of the Anti-Terrorist Center of the SBU. Maliuk personally took part in the operational investigative group that was handling the case and led the operation to detain him.
"This was an extremely complex development and subsequent multi-step implementation, during which we used all possible open and covert forms and methods of our activities, as well as the full range of operational and technical measures. Through encrypted software implants, we infiltrated the traitor's gadgets – mobile terminals, computers. We essentially lived with him, conducting audio and video surveillance. Throughout this entire process, we managed to effectively document the collection and transfer of relevant information by the traitor to the enemy," he stated.
The Ukrainian special service also revealed that through the traitor, the SBU had been feeding disinformation to the enemy for an extended period: initially within the framework of counterintelligence measures, and later – as part of a criminal proceeding.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the Security Service of Ukraine announced on January 28 that they had dismantled a Russian espionage network tasked with gathering intelligence on Ukrainian aircraft to target aviation infrastructure.
