The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a resolution establishing February 24 as the National Day of Prayer. A total of 255 deputies voted in favor.

Nardep Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this information.

The document proposes to establish a National Day of Prayer in Ukraine, to be celebrated annually on February 24 – the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

To achieve this goal, it is suggested to set an appropriate memorial day, along with the following directives:

  • On the National Day of Prayer, the Verkhovna Rada will hold a session that begins with the performance of Ukraine’s spiritual anthem, “God is Great, the Only One.”
  • The Cabinet of Ministers is to develop a comprehensive plan for state-level observance of the National Day of Prayer within three months from the date of this resolution, involving representatives from the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and religious organizations.
  • The regional and Kyiv city state administrations are to ensure the preparation and implementation of a series of events to commemorate the National Day of Prayer.

The initiators believe that the acceptance of this project is justified by the fact that “history provides numerous examples where national prayer has changed the course of history.”

“The adoption of this resolution will contribute to the preservation of spiritual heritage, strengthen patriotic spirit, and consolidate Ukrainian society in a common prayer for victory and the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity,” the document states.
