On October 28, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced that Norway will provide Ukraine with a new aid package amounting to 500 million euros, with more than half of this sum allocated specifically for military assistance.
A number of northern countries, including Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, have agreed to offer defense support to Ukraine, which includes weapon production, assistance in winter preparations, construction of shelters, and support for the Victory Plan.
Since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, northern countries have provided Ukraine with over 20 billion euros in military, financial, and humanitarian support.
Jonas Gahr Støre noted that the leaders of Northern European countries received a clear assessment of the situation on the front lines during their meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky at the fourth Ukraine-Northern Countries summit.
“The countries of Northern Europe will continue to seek new ways to support Ukraine and its people as it continues to fight against Russian aggression,” the joint statement released at the Northern Summit in Reykjavik on October 28 stated.
Norway ranks 12th in the world for the amount of aid provided to Ukraine, currently totaling 2.8 billion euros in humanitarian, financial, and military support, according to the Kiel Institute's Ukraine Support Tracker.
Background. It has also been reported that Sweden will allocate over $68 million in military assistance to Ukraine. Of this, $46.5 million will go to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while another $21.6 million will be directed towards supporting the Ukrainian defense industry.
