Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on proposals regarding the reduction of the conscription age, which have been raised by representatives of NATO and other partner countries.
He made this statement during a meeting with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
"We have heard signals several times concerning the age of our military, the conscription age, and so on. And, as was rightly said by representatives of the former administration (of the USA), there are also representatives from NATO countries... You know, I won’t specify a precise number because it’s dangerous, but we have over a hundred brigades on the battlefield, and each of these brigades requires staffing and equipment every day," the president stated.
According to him, one of the main problems remains the lack of necessary equipment.
"Equipment – armored vehicles, artillery, everything that is needed in each brigade. However, in a large number of brigades, the equipment constantly breaks down or requires repair," the head of state emphasized.
Zelensky stressed that the support from allies should focus not only on increasing the size of the army but also on its technical modernization.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the Biden administration suggested to Trump’s team that Ukraine should lower the conscription age. The issue of personnel replenishment is a matter of acute concern, and Ukraine needs to address it, Sullivan stated.
