Over 1 million citizens have been called to the Defense Forces.
This was announced by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksandr Lytvynenko, during a session of the Verkhovna Rada, as reported by MP from "European Solidarity" Oleksiy Honcharenko.
According to him, the state plans to mobilize 160,000 reservists to staff military units up to 85%. Meanwhile, lawmakers have approved the extension of general mobilization and martial law until February 7, 2025.
Reference. General mobilization in Ukraine was introduced on February 24, 2022, with the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Currently, men aged 18 to 60 are subject to mobilization. At the same time, the Council has prohibited the mobilization of "limited fit" individuals under 25 years old.
In addition, the law №10449, signed by the President in April 2024, abolishes the conscription system. Starting from September 1, 2025, educational institutions will conduct basic military training for Ukrainian citizens aged 18 to 25.
The training will last up to 3 months during martial law and up to 5 months in peacetime. After training, individuals who successfully complete the program will be registered at their place of residence.
Moreover, lawmakers have approved the draft law №11379-d, which proposes to prohibit the mobilization of men under 25 years old. This document is currently awaiting the signature of Volodymyr Zelensky.
