On Wednesday, January 29, in Lutsk, employees of the Territorial Center for Recruitment detained former Deputy Head of the Volyn Customs, Yuriy Tereshchuk. He was taken to the TCK for data verification but escaped during the military-medical commission. The fact of the detention was confirmed to ZAXID.NET by the press service of the regional TCK, which did not disclose the man's name, only mentioning the first letter of his surname – T. However, according to local journalist Taras Seredych, it is indeed Yuriy Tereshchuk.
On the afternoon of January 29, journalist Taras Seredych published a video on his Telegram channel showing individuals in military uniforms detaining a man. Taras Seredych reported that the detained individual is former Deputy Head of the Volyn Customs, Yuriy Tereshchuk. The individuals in military uniform are TCK employees.
“Sources indicate that right now in Lutsk, Yuriy Tereshchuk, the former deputy head of the Bukovyn Customs of the State Customs Service, is experiencing a ‘gentle busification’”, wrote Taras Seredych.

Later, the press service of the Volyn Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support commented on the incident. They explained that during the notification measures, police detained a man who was wanted in the "Oberih" system. For clarification of military registration data, the conscript was taken to the TCK and SP, but he managed to escape.
“During the military-medical commission, taking advantage of the doctors' and servicemen's busyness, he escaped from the VLK location over a fence. We inform you that citizen T. remains wanted and is obliged to report to the territorial recruitment and social support center for clarification of registration data and to undergo the VLK”, the press service of the Volyn Regional TCK and SP told ZAXID.NET.
Who is Yuriy Tereshchuk?
In March 2016, a scandal erupted at the Volyn Customs. At the "Dorohusk" checkpoint, Polish customs officers and border guards detained a record batch of amber from Ukraine – 1.5 tons valued at 24 million zlotys. The truck carrying the contraband had successfully passed through the Ukrainian checkpoint in Yahodyn, Volyn region. On March 29, the management of the Volyn Customs, including Deputy Head Yuriy Tereshchuk, was suspended from duty pending an internal investigation. Subsequently, Yuriy Tereshchuk was dismissed.
In November 2016, Yuriy Tereshchuk was involved in a scandal regarding possible illegal enrichment. Journalists from "Slidstvo.Info" discovered a mansion, land, and apartments owned by former prosecutor of Volyn Andriy Hili. Yuriy Tereshchuk is the son-in-law of Andriy Hili. Investigators found that Yuriy Tereshchuk's mother, Tetyana, bought two cars within a year. His wife, Halyna Tereshchuk (Hili), while on maternity leave, declared several hundred thousand hryvnias. At that time, the Tereshchuk family also declared a land plot and two new apartments. Meanwhile, in 2015, Yuriy Tereshchuk earned just over 58 thousand UAH, while his wife on maternity leave earned nearly 14.5 thousand UAH, most of which came from interest on a bank deposit.
