Ukrainian intelligence services continue to communicate with North Korean soldiers captured by the Defense Forces in Kursk. Currently, Ukrainian investigators are establishing and verifying all facts regarding the involvement of the DPRK military in the war against Ukraine. A video of the interrogation of one of the captives was released by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, January 14.

A North Korean soldier told the investigator that he was injured during combat. His comrades retreated, leaving him behind. For several days, the North Korean soldier was alone and unable to walk. He was later found by Ukrainian troops who provided him with medical assistance.

“Since I was injured, I couldn’t move and was alone for about 3, 4, 5 days. After that, the Ukrainian forces found me, gave me some injection, and transported me by vehicle here (to Kyiv, – ed.)”, said the captured North Korean soldier.

The captured North Korean also confirmed that the Russians issued him fake documents. In particular, his Russian-style military ID did not have his photo, and it included a false name.

During the interrogation, the North Korean soldier assured that neither he nor other soldiers from his unit had captured Ukrainian servicemen.

President Volodymyr Zelensky explained that Ukrainian intelligence services are meticulously establishing all facts related to the involvement of DPRK military personnel in the war against Ukraine to show the world how they are being exploited by Russia.

“The world will know the whole truth about how Russia uses guys like these, who grew up in a complete information vacuum, know nothing about Ukraine, and are used by Russia solely to prolong and expand this war. Only Russia needs this war”, emphasized Volodymyr Zelensky.

It is worth noting that Seoul plans to discuss with Kyiv the possibility of transferring the captives from the DPRK to South Korea. South Korea's foreign ministry spokesperson Lee Jae-won explained that their constitution recognizes the entire Korean Peninsula as its territory and its inhabitants as its citizens.

Recall that on January 11, Volodymyr Zelensky reported that two North Korean soldiers captured by the Defense Forces were delivered to Kyiv from Kursk. The president emphasized that capturing North Korean soldiers is challenging, as Russia does everything to conceal their involvement in the war against Ukraine. In particular, the Russians are “finishing off” the wounded soldiers. The captured North Koreans have been provided with medical assistance and are being held in appropriate conditions.

Later, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to hand over the captured soldiers to North Korea, but only if the North Korean dictator organizes their exchange for Ukrainian defenders held captive in Russia.

Additionally, according to South Korean intelligence, as of January 13, the DPRK forces lost 300 soldiers killed in Ukraine, with another 2,700 sustaining injuries.
