Ukrainian single skater Anastasia Hozhva concluded her participation in the 2025 European Figure Skating Championships after the short program. She placed 27th with a score of 42.21 points, which did not qualify her for the free program.
For the leader of the Ukrainian women's single skating team, Anastasia Hozhva, this championship marked the fifth of her career. Her best result so far was 20th place in the previous two Euros.
The 23-year-old athlete, who trains under Olga Kurovskaya and Marina Amirhanova, shared that she has recently struggled to focus on her training, as she lost her father and grandmother in a short period. Her coaching team even decided to revert to an older program that Anastasia had previously performed. The figure skater made mistakes on her jumping elements.
Leading the standings after the short program is Georgian representative Anastasia Gubanova.
She is among those who, despite sanctions, continue to participate in all competitions.
It is worth noting that since 2022, athletes from Russia and Belarus have been barred from competitions organized by the ISU. However, Russians compete for teams of other countries. For instance, in the Georgian team, even ethnic Georgians are originally from Moscow.
Additionally, many athletes have Russian coaches. Fourteen athletes from various national teams have fully or partially prepared for this championship in Russia. Gubanova hit the jackpot: she represented Russia until 2018 and is currently training in St. Petersburg under Evgeny Rukavitsin.
However, her lead is not secure: the top three (which also includes Estonian representative Nina Petrokina and Swiss skater Kimmi Ripon) are within one point of each other.
